2013 Sports New Year's Resolutions Stuck
Posted on January 3, 2013 at 01:04 AM.

Around six months ago I and a few others began writing on a full-time basis for Operation Sports. The goal has been to provide the great Operation Sports community with insights and analysis that are a little different and hopefully a tad more interesting than the run-of-the-mill stuff you read on other sites.

I've had some great debates and conversations with many of you touching upon just about every sports subject you can think of. I enjoy keeping things diverse. On any given day we could be discussing the NFL playoffs followed up the next day by recapping the UFC's latest Pay-Per-View card.

Feeling out the OS community has also been a learning experience. I've talked gaming with you guys for the better part of the last 10 years and I've always appreciated the honest answers and feedback I've received. Your responses to my articles have continued to be just as honest.

For example, a few months ago I wrote an article about which NFL teams are the most well-built for the future. As soon as I posted it I had a pit in my stomach. It's natural to screw up at work every once in a while, and I realized once that article hit the OS front page I was going to get hit hard by you guys...and you didn't disappoint.

You told me how I was an idiot, how I knew nothing about the NFL, and somebody even went so far as to say I should give up writing forever. I came back to those comments with my tail between my legs and agreed with you all in how bad of a write-up that was. Hey, it happens.

Thankfully the experience has been great and the positive has far outweighed the negative. I'll never proclaim myself to be a great writer, but I will always say I'm doing my best to use my writing as a platform to strike up meaningful sports debates with our great community here.

As we sprint through the first week of the New Year I wanted to put together some resolutions pertaining to sports for myself. We'll check back in December to see how many I actually kept:
  1. Stop defending Lane Kiffin.
  2. Stop making predictions for UFC fight cards.
  3. Never write another article pertaining to the Philadelphia Eagles roster.
  4. Don't get depressed about the fact Kobe Bryant only needs to bounce a ball twice to double my annual salary.
  5. Come to terms that it is time for Dodger Stadium to be renovated.
  6. Don't get too attached to Dwight Howard.
  7. Stop discussing the theory that the LA Kings should be allowed to hang two Stanley Cup Banners if the entire 2012-13 season is canceled.
  8. Stop allowing football players to irritate me so much every time they celebrate for making routine plays.
  9. Retire completely from fantasy sports -- it's just not worth the headache.
  10. Play through at least five seasons of MLB '13 The Show.
  11. Celebrate the announcement that a NFL team is coming to Los Angeles (assuming it is not the Raiders).

Those are a few of my Sports New Year's Resolutions, what are yours?

I wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2013. If there is ever a topic you'd like me to tackle, don't hesitate to contact me on Twitter @JoeChacon.

Sport's?

1. Go make my own predictions on next year's top 25 and write the reasons why I did, so I can look back and say wtf!? or wow! How did I know that?

2. Finish a dynasty in NCAA 14. Started one with Fresno State this year and I'm in year 4, and I'm just turning the corner from, Lousiville/Northern Illinois to Boise State, but I dunno. I don't think I picked a team I could stick with... In NCAA 06 I had an Arizona State dynasty that got to the point 20 years in, I had a new QB every year that was 6'4" 220 with 86 SPD, SR, and 90ish OVR. The linebackers were lethal, and I felt so proud. Playing on Heisman too! Not bad for a 5th grader.

3. Be patient with the Portland Trail Blazers.

4. Not get so upset at ref calls.

5. Watch a lot more college basketball BEFORE march madness.

6. Watch Sunday Night Baseball more than once a year.

7. Go to the spring game for Oregon State.

8. Make it through a MLB the show franchise. Just got a PS3 for Christmas (own a 360) so I can finally play it! I don't want to get in over my head and play every inning for the first 50 games and then call it quits... lol.

9. Go to a hockey game.

10. Post on OS more (I visit it so much, might as well add to the conversation!)

11. Soak up every moment of Lane Kiffen still coaching USC, and Wittick playing QB. If the Sun Bowl is showing what's more to come, as Beaver fan, I can't wait!
